Nearly everyone has had some type of pain or tension in the neck.  Professional surveys have shown that 34 % of the population has had troublesome neck pain in the past few years and 14% had neck pain that lasted over six months.  Also 51% of working people in all walks of life has had stiff neck, neck pain and arm related pain from the neck.

To prevent neck pain, one must develop and maintain a high level of strength in the neck muscles and use this strength to practice proper posture.  Neck muscles in most people are too weak to maintain good posture.  It's also difficult for people to have strong neck muscles due to a limited number of good exercise devices to strengthen the neck muscles.
Neck pain and tension are common in our modern society and affects people working in offices, at computers, in factories and most industries.  Sports injury is second to automobile accidents.  The Journal of Musculoskeletal Medicine in May 1996 describes exercises for athletes to gain strength and flexibility of the neck to withstand the impact of contact sports such as football and wrestling.  Unfortunately these exercises use gym equipment weights with improvised head harnesses that are awkward and hazardous.
Treatment of neck pain is frustrating because there's no safe, effecive and user friendly way for people to strenghten their neck muscles.  In recognizing this shortfall, the NeckSpring was developed as an exercise apparatus for strengthening the neck muscles.  It was designed to meet the requirements of simplicity, ease of use, compactness, portability, inexpensive and effective for exercising the neck muscles.
